Biography
David P. Hurford, Ph.D. is the executive director of the Center for Reading at Pittsburg State University and is the founder and manager of the Center for the Assessment and Remediation of Reading Difficulties (CARRD, Inc.), a nonprofit dedicated to assisting individuals with dyslexia become competent readers. He is also a co-founder of Dyslexia Help LLC (Dyslexia101.com), which provides online evaluations and interventions. Dr. Hurford is the executive editor of Perspectives on Language and Literacy which is a journal of the International Dyslexia Association.
Dr. Hurford has given a large number of presentations at regional, national, and international conferences and has published many articles in the area of dyslexia, reading difficulties, phonological processing, and other educational issues. He has authored multiple reading curricula designed to prevent reading difficulties (Secret Codes and Advanced Codes), children’s books about dyslexia (I Have Dyslexia), and educational books concerning dyslexia (Dyslexia and Reading Difficulties: A Manual for Parents, Educators, and Students).
The Center for Reading and CARRD, Inc. both use his identification and remediation strategies to provide high-quality, accurate assessments and successful interventions for children and adults with dyslexia and reading difficulties. Dr. Hurford also provides in-service training on issues related to dyslexia, reading difficulties, and attentional issues (ADHD).
