OKMTSS

OKMTSS, the Oklahoma Multi-Tiered System of Supports, is a comprehensive continuum of evidence-based, systemic practices designed to support a rapid response to students’ academic and behavioral needs. It uses regular observation and data-based decision making to guide instruction and intervention.

The OKMTSS framework outlines a three-tiered system of support:

  • Tier 1 — Universal, school-wide supports for all students;

  • Tier 2 — Targeted interventions for small groups;

  • Tier 3 — Intensive interventions for individual students.

Key components emphasized within Oklahoma’s MTSS approach include: Sustainable Teaming, where collaborative teams work together to build capacity and meet student needs; Evidence-Based Practices, which are instructional and intervention strategies proven effective; Data-Driven Decisions, using multiple sources of data to determine needs and evaluate intervention effectiveness.

The OKMTSS framework is intended to ensure that schools respond quickly and systematically to both academic and behavioral challenges, providing the right level of instructional support for students based on ongoing data.

Professional development, such as the SPDG MTSS Implementation Course, supports educators in understanding and implementing these components within a continuous improvement model.
